Tianti Sailing Adventures 2016

Adventure #1 - Desolation Sound - June 12 - 18
Desolation Sound is a boater’s paradise at the confluence of Malaspina Inlet and Homfray Channel. Boaters have been enjoying the spectacular vistas and calm waters for generations. Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park has more than 60 km of shoreline, several islands, numerous small bays and snug coves. The warm waters of the park are ideal for swimming and scuba diving; the forested upland offers a shady refuge of trails and small lakes and designated campsites.

Adventure #2 - Broughton Archipelago - June 18 - 24
Broughton Archipelago Park, B.C.’s largest marine park, consists of a wonderful collection of dozens of undeveloped islands and islets situated at the mouth of Knight Inlet on the west side of Queen Charlotte Strait near the north end of Vancouver Island. Established in 1992, Broughton Archipelago Park offers excellent boating, kayaking and wildlife viewing opportunities. A multitude of islands provides park visitors sheltered waters and anchorages with a backdrop of the magnificent coastal mountains to the east and the waters of Queen Charlotte Strait to the west. These islands have been utilized by First Nation peoples for generations and there is ample evidence of their extensive use of the area. Boaters can easily “discover” white midden beaches, culturally modified trees, clam “terraces” and even a petroglyph while exploring the park. (Hello BC)

Adventure #3 - Haida Gwaii - Open Ocean Sailing - June 25 - Jul. 1

Adventure #3 is more focused for experienced sailors

Gwaii Haanas - ‘Islands of Beauty’ As we sail North (120 Miles) from Pt. Hardy across Queen Charlotte Sound, the islands of Haida Gwaii reach out to us from a time gone by. Massive moss-draped cedar and Sitka spruce tower above the Haida people's ancient carved poles and fallen longhouses on the lush rainforest islands of Gwaii Haanas. Skies fill with bald eagles, bears scavenge salmon on wild beaches and the ocean teems with breaching whales, porpoises and sea lions. Experience a rich, remote landscape steeped in spirituality, protected by Parks Canada and the Haida who draw cultural inspiration from this land of their ancestors. (Parks Canada)

Adventure #4 - Haida Gwaii - Gwaii Haanas July 2 - 8
This adventure takes us back in time to an area unaffected by glaciers; to the ancestral homeland of the Haida people, to a place that can only be described as ‘magical’. It is one of the places to see before you die! Massive cedar and Sitka spruce tower above the Haida people's ancient carved poles and fallen longhouses on the lush rainforest islands of Gwaii Haanas.

Adventure #5 - Inside Passage Alaska - July 16 - 22
Shaped by the staggering force of massive glaciers millions of years ago, Alaska’s Inside Passage boasts wildlife-filled fjords and lush island scenery — habitat for bald eagles, sea lions, porpoises and whales. Its mountains are carpeted with majestic forests. Inside Passage Alaska is home to the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian people whose history is reflected in towering totem poles. Russian settlers left a legacy of onion-domed churches gleaming with icons. The spectacular Misty Fiords National Monument, lying just 22 miles east of Ketchikan, is a natural mosaic of sea cliffs, steep fjords and rock walls jutting 3000ft straight out of the ocean. Dramatic waterfalls plunge into the salt water through narrow clefts or course over great rounded granite shoulders fed by lakes and streams that absorb the rainfall of more than 150 inches annually. (Travel Alaska)

Adventure #6 - Glacier Bay Alaska - July 23 - Aug. 1
Sixteen spectacular glaciers flow from surrounding mountains into the waters of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. Lofty mountain peaks, ice-sculptured fjords, an abundance of marine wildlife and, most of all, massive tidewater glaciers, have made Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve one of Alaska's most spectacular settings and a must-stop for every cruise ship sailing north through Southeast Alaska. The 3.3 million acre park is indeed an icy wilderness. Today, glaciers still cover 27 percent of the Park. There are more than 50 named glaciers of which seven are active tidewater glaciers that calve icebergs into the sea. Two of them, Johns Hopkins and Margerie Glaciers, are advancing. Encircling the park to the west is the Fairweather Range, the highest coastal mountains in the world at 15,000 feet. (Travel Alaska)

Adventure #7 - Sitka Alaska - Aug. 1 - 7
Sitka is the only Inside Passage community that fronts the Pacific Ocean, hugging Baranof Island's west shore in the shadow of the impressive Mount Edgecumbe, a dormant volcano with a graceful cone reminiscent of Japan's Mount Fuji.

Adventure #8 - South East Alaska - Open Ocean Sailing - Aug. 7 - 13

Adventure #8 is more focused for experienced sailors

We’ll sail down the West Coast of Baranof Island and South to Prince of Wales Island before heading East through some of the outer islands of Southeast Alaska en route to Prince Rupert BC.

Adventure #9 - Great Bear Rainforest - Aug. 26 - Sep. 4
Prince Rupert to Port McNeill.
The Great Bear Rainforest is one of the most pristine wilderness environments on earth, a vast tract of temperate rainforest stretching some 400 km/250 mi along the central and north coast of British Columbia. It is home to the planet's largest intact temperate rainforest, and is the only place in the world where you can see the Kermode (Spirit) bear, a sub-species of black bear noted for its white fur. It provides unparalleled wildlife and grizzly viewing, and a sense of solitude and tranquility. (Parks Canada)

Adventure #10 - Inside Passage - Southern Portion - Sep. 5 - 14
Port McNeill to Vancouver. May be the best Adventure of all!
It will cover the whole Southern Inside Passage from Pt. McNeill to Vancouver and will include; The Broughtons (Adventure #2) and Desolation Sound (Adventure # 1)
This Adventure will be the grand finale of our voyages throughout the Summer, we hope you’ll join us!
